The Sarah Lawrence Lecture Series presents professor Richard Wollheim as its first guest. He is professor of philosophy and chairman of the Philosophy Department, University College, University of London. Professor Wollheim is the author of ART AND ITS OBJECTS (New York : Harper & Row, [1968]) and ON ART AND THE MIND (Cambridge, Mass. : Harvard University Press, [1983] c1974.), and numerous articles on aesthetics, philosophy of mind, epistemology, and moral and political philosophy. Richard Arthur Wollheim was born in London on May 5, 1923. He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford University. He taught philosopy at University College, London from 1949-1982. He also taught at Columbia University from 1982-1985, and at U.C. Berkeley from 1985 until his death on November 4, 2003. He held a chair in philosophy and humanities at U.C. Davis from 1989-1996.
